How the Rankings are Calculated 


All calculations is done in the same way that international players are ranked, with some adjustments to apply to Junior Cricket.

BATTING

For each run scored by the batsman he receives 0.5 points.
Batting Bonus
Score more then 10 runs = 5 Bonus Points.
Score more then 25 runs = 10 Bonus Points.
Score more then 50 runs = 15 Bonus Points.
Score more then 80 runs = 20 Bonus Points.
Score more then 100 runs = 25 Bonus Points.
Contribution Bonus
The batsman also gets the % of his contribution to the total innings.
eg: Total innings score = 125
       Player score = 25
       Contribution Bonus = (25/125)*100 = 20 Contribution Bonus points.
Batting Penalty
Score less then 10 runs = -5 Penalty Points.
Score less then 1 runs = -10 Penalty Points.

The match ranking points are added to the weighted average points.
The weighted average
The idea with the rankings is to place the batsman that is most in form at the top.
For eg.
John Scores 100 90 80 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 0 avr. of 50
Mark Scores 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 avr. of 50
Although John & Mark has the same avr. Mark is the one that is in form after the 11 matches.
Using a mathematical principle known as exponential decay, you can produce a weighted average that shows up a player's recent form. In the Ratings formula, each innings counts as 10% less important as you go back in the player's career. This exponential decay will be applied to the ranking points and not the batsman score.


BOWLING

For each wicket the bowler takes he will earn 15 points.
Bowling Bonus
Take more then 2 wicket's in a match = 10 Bonus Points.
Take more then 5 wicket's in a match = 20 Bonus Points.
Take more then 7 wicket's in a match = 30 Bonus Points.
Take more then 9 wicket's in a match = 40 Bonus Points.
Contribution Bonus
The bowler also gets the % of his contribution to the total number of wicket's taken in the match.
eg: Total wicket's taken = 8
       Wicket's taken by bowler = 4
       Contribution Bonus = (4/8)*100 = 50 Contribution Bonus points.
Bowling Penalty
A Bowler will concede .25 points for every run conceded.
If the bowler failed to take a wicket in the match he will concede -10 points.
The weighted average
This will also apply to bowlers.


TIME WEIGHTED FORMULA

The system will check every day to find the last match every player played. If the player has not played for more then 30 days the system will reduce his ranking points earned over the last 10 matches with 2% for every 7 days he has not played. This will have the effect that the player will lose 8% of his ranking points after 30 days. There after he will lose an extra 2% per 7 days he does not play.

The reason we only start reducing the players rankings after 30 days is that some schools and clubs have a few bye's in a row.

Should the player start playing after say 6 months again he will receive back the ranking points he lost and will be ranked on the last 10 matches he has played.

The reason for this is not to penelise a player that had a injury, as we will not know if the player was injured or not.
